I just got back from the second Bitcoin for Financial Services Summit at The Space in Denver. I skipped the first one last year. We had just launched Capital B Advisory, had no revenue, bitcoin was falling, and I put the expense on hold. After being there this week, I wish I’d gone. It was one of the highest-signal events I’ve attended: people doing serious work in financial services, figuring out how bitcoin fits into lending, custody, planning and the rest of the real economy. Wyatt O’Rourke and Jordan Guess put together something special.
What I took home was bigger than a business card stack. I’ve gotten to know Wyatt and Jordan over the last few conferences, and Wyatt often has his wife and child with him. At the Midwest Bitcoin Summit, I asked him why he made the effort to bring them. I can’t quote his answer from memory, but I remember what it meant to me: we’re doing this for the generation that comes after us, and he wants his children to grow up around the people building it. So Kelly and our son came with me to Denver. Traveling to a conference with a toddler is a lot of work. I’m glad we did it.
I got to spend the week around people I respect, with my family there to share it. That reminded me why we started Capital B Advisory and why fixing the money matters beyond our own careers or portfolios. I left Denver grateful for the people working on bitcoin and freedom tech, energized by what they’re building, and more convinced than ever that we’re going to win.
Happy Friday.
